Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg to hold town hall for National Safe Boating Week

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg and partner agencies are scheduled to host a town hall for media on May 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., promoting the kickoff of National Safe Boating Week (NSBW).
The Coast Guard and our partner agencies are celebrating NSBW and urging boaters to pay attention to their boating behaviors and reinforce the importance of wearing a life jacket.
The event is an opportunity for local media to tell their audience about potentially life-saving boating, the importance of having an Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) and Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), Boating Under the Influence (BUI) safety information, as well as a live search-and-rescue demonstration with Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg small boats and an Air Station Clearwater HH-60 Jawhawk helicopter.
Representatives from partner agencies will be available to answer questions and give interviews. The SAR Demo will start at noon and should last about 30 minutes.
The partner agencies attending include:
- Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg: EPIRB and PLB information and display
-Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater: Search and rescue demonstration
- Coast Guard Auxiliary: Lifejacket information and display
- Florida Fish and Wildlife: Drug Recognition Expert and BUI expert
- Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit: Kid Float Program
