Coast Guard assists boaters after vessel fire 20 miles east of Ponce Inlet

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Coast Guard assisted three boaters Saturday after a vessel fire 20 miles east of Ponce Inlet.
Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center watchstanders received a notification at 10:55 a.m. from the crew of the Catatonic, a 26-foot recreational fishing vessel, stating they were disabled after a flash fire occurred on board when they started the engines and one passenger received burns.
A Coast Guard Station Ponce de Leon Inlet 45-foot Response Boat – Medium crew launched at 11:10 a.m. and located the disabled vessel at anchor. The RB-M crew removed the three passengers from the vessel and transported them to Station Ponce where EMS were waiting.
The vessel owner will arrange salvage.
