FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Coast Guard and Navy crews participated in the 2019 Port Everglades Fleet Week Damage Contol Olympics Tuesday.

The event brought together numerous Coast Guard cutters and Navy ships whose crews competed for the Damage Control championship on Fort Lauderdale’s Resolve Maritime Academy training facility.

The Damage Control Olympics are a series of friendly, competitive drills that revolve around shipboard damage control including firefighting on exteriors and interiors, search and rescue, pipe patching, a dress-out drill, and safety security procedures. This simulated event proves the ability of the military crews to perform successful repairs on a vessel taking critical damage.

The USS Hue City (CG-66), Coast Guard Cutter Spencer (WMEC-905), Coast Guard Cutter William Flores ( WPC-1103) participated in the event.

The Port Everglades Fleet Week is an annual event where servicemembers are honored for their service by the local community.
