Coast Guard boatcrew medevacs possible heart attack victim

NEW YORK – A U.S. Coast Guard boatcrew medically evacuated a 71-year-old woman experiencing symptoms of a possible heart attack approximately 10 miles southeast of Sandy Hook, New Jersey, Sunday morning.

At approximately 10:25 p.m. Saturday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York received a report stating a woman aboard a cruise ship, Anthem of the Seas, was experiencing symptoms of a possible heart attack while the ship was approximately 30 miles east of Asbury Park, New Jersey.

A Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended a medevac, and a rescue boatcrew from Station Sandy Hook with Sea Bright emergency medical personnel, aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat, was launched.

At approximately 12:25 a.m. Sunday, the crew arrived on scene, approximately 10 miles southeast of Sandy Hook, New Jersey.  The boatcrew subsequently embarked the woman, along with a doctor and three family members, for transfer to Station Sandy Hook. Upon arrival at approximately 1:50 a.m., the woman was transferred to Sea Bright emergency medical personnel for transport to Monmouth Medical Center.

The woman’s condition currently is unknown.
