SUBJ: SILVER ANCIENT MARINER SELECTION
1. I am pleased to announce the selection of DCCM Russell A. Cox
as the fourteenth Silver (Enlisted) Ancient Mariner since the
inception of the program in 1978. DCCM Cox will assume the title
of Silver Ancient Mariner from BMCM Mathew J. Coppola during a
ceremony onboard USCG MANATEE (WPB-87363) in Dania, FL, on
31 May 2019.
2. DCCM Cox is currently stationed at Surface Forces Logistics
Command (SFLC) in Baltimore, MD. He previously served as the
Damage Control (DC) Rating/Training Manager at TRACEN Yorktown
and has served aboard CGC SPENCER (WMEC-905), CGC SENECA (WMEC-906),
CGC TAMPA (WMEC-902) and CGC MORGENTHAU (WHEC-722).
3. The Ancient Mariner title recognizes the officer and enlisted
person with the earliest designation as a permanent cutterman and
requires a minimum of ten years of sea time. The award recipients
must personify and uphold the Core Values of honor, respect and
devotion to duty, along with the professionalism and leadership
associated with long service at sea.
