SUBJ:  THE COAST GUARD FOUNDATION (CGF) SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM OPEN SEASON 2019
1. The Coast Guard Foundation Scholarship Program is soliciting applications for the 2019
academic school year from 1 February through 15 March 2019. Major considerations for the
selection of awardees include scholastic promise, motivation, moral character, leadership
qualities, and good citizenship. In 2019, applicant financial need will also be considered a
factor in the selection of awardees. The Coast Guard Foundation Scholarship Program is
generously funded by individuals, foundations, and corporations from around the country.
2. These scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000 per year.
3. To be eligible for a Coast Guard Foundation Scholarship, students must be dependent
children of active duty, retired, or deceased Coast Guard enlisted personnel (with the
exception of the ADM Robert E. Kramek and Captain Ernest W. Fox Perpetual Scholarships –
see Paragraphs 5.a. and 5.c.), or dependent children of enlisted personnel in the Coast Guard
reserve currently on active duty for 180 days or more. The Scholarship Program supports
students enrolled in undergraduate degree programs. There is an exception for Fallen
Heroes Scholarship applicants in which technical degrees are authorized. Students
currently attending college are eligible to apply, as long as they have dependent status
with their sponsor and are under the age of 23 when applying.
4. Only online applications are accepted. Please visit:
www.coastguardfoundation.org/scholarships to apply and at:
www.dcms.uscg.mil/worklife/Scholarship-Program for additional information.
5. Additional scholarships have more specific eligibility requirements:
   a. The ADM Robert E. Kramek Scholarship will be awarded for the first time in 2019.
To be eligible for the Kramek Scholarship, students must be dependent children of active duty,
retired, or deceased Coast Guard officers or enlisted members, or dependent children of Coast
Guard officers or enlisted, in the Coast Guard reserve currently on active duty for 180 days
or more. Major considerations for the selection of awardees include scholastic promise,
motivation, moral character, leadership qualities, good citizenship, and financial need.
Students currently attending college are eligible to apply, as long as they have dependent
status with their sponsor and are under the age of 23 when applying. Those eligible can apply
online at: www.coastguardfoundation.org/scholarships.
   b. The Coast Guard Foundation Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund accepts applications on a
continuous year-round basis. Dependent Coast Guard children who lost a parent in Coast Guard
operations are eligible and encouraged to apply for these scholarships. The Fallen Heroes Fund
was established by John and Delinda Statts to honor the memory of the parents of Mr. Statts,
Captain Frederick Statts and Mrs. Sara Statts. The Coast Guard Foundation is committed to
ensuring the children of our fallen heroes incur no cost for their education. The scholarships
aim to bridge the gap between the benefits offered by their aid and the actual cost of
completing an undergraduate degree or technical degree. Awards are renewable for four
consecutive years of undergraduate studies. Those eligible can apply online at:
www.coastguardfoundation.org/scholarships.
   c. The Captain Ernest W. Fox Perpetual Scholarship Program is sponsored by Elizabeth Clay
and Dean Fox to honor the memory of their late son and brother, respectively, who served
23 years in the Coast Guard (1977-2000). This program established a perpetual scholarship at
the Aviation Logistics Center (ALC), Elizabeth City, North Carolina to assist the education
and training endeavors of ALC personnel only. Employees of ALC (active duty officers, enlisted
personnel, and Federal civil service employees) and their dependents are eligible to apply.
The Fox scholarship will provide one, non-renewable, $2,000 scholarship for the 2019 school
year. Those eligible can apply online at: www.coastguardfoundation.org/scholarships.
