1. The 30th Annual Women in Aviation International (WAI) Conference will be
held 14-16 March 2019 at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, CA.
The conference is hosted by Women in Aviation International, a nonprofit
organization dedicated to the encouragement and advancement of women in all
aviation career fields and interests.
2. The purpose of this annual conference is to foster education, career
development, and training, as well as provide networking and mentoring
opportunities to members of the aviation community. Pending FY19 lapse
in appropriation resolution, attendance is open to all active duty women
and men serving in or seeking a career in aviation. Priority will be given
to first time attendees; all others will be considered based on career path,
experience, and potential benefit of attendance.
3. IAW REFs (A) and (B), the Office of Aviation Forces, COMDT (CG-711) is
responsible to report all attendance and costs. This conference has been
approved IAW Section VII of REF (A), so Commanding officers/OICs may issue
TDY orders for personnel to attend IAW REF (B), but all attendance must be
coordinated in advance with COMDT (CG-711). COMDT (CG-711) will pay for
registration fees for the first 35 attendees, but units will fund all travel
costs and issue all travel orders for their members. Commands may also issue
unlimited no-cost permissive orders IAW Chapter 2.a.10 of REF (C). Those
attending on permissive orders must notify COMDT (CG-711) via email to
HQS-SMB-WAI@uscg.mil for accountability.
4. Commands should submit candidates to COMDT (CG-711) NLT 1 February 2019.
Once members are notified via email that attendance is approved, they must
email their approved TDY request to HQS-SMB-WAI@uscg.mil NLT 8 February 2019.
5. Conference attendance information:
    A. The registration cut-off date is 4 March 2019. Members should NOT
register online but instead should submit a registration form as instructed
via SEPCOR from COMDT (CG-711).
    B. Instructions for booking hotel reservations will be sent via SEPCOR.
    C. Uniforms for the conference are flight suits for aviators or Tropical
Blue for non-aviators. Attire for the banquet will be SDB-A, jacket with blue
ties or tie tabs, slacks or skirts are permissible.
6. DHS requires a post-conference report 30 days after the event. To comply,
all travelers must submit a copy of their settlement to COMDT (CG-711) via
email to HQS-SMB-WAI@uscg.mil no later than 29 Mar 2019.
