1. Due to the current lapse in appropriations, the tuition assistance program
has been suspended. New applicants will be added to a wait list and processed
accordingly once the lack of appropriations is resolved.
2. Education and Training Quota Management Command (ETQC) will continue to accept
applications during the lapse in appropriations; however, new applications will not
be processed until the Coast Guard has a fiscal year 2019 appropriation.
3. For members who already have an approved tuition assistance authorization, your
courses are funded and the educational institution will receive payment. Students
who start classes without an approved TA voucher assume full responsibility for
funding their course(s).
4. Affected members are encouraged to seek other alternatives to fund upcoming
planned courses. Non-Coast Guard (federal and state) sources for need-based or
merit-based financial aid can be found at: https://studentaid.ed.gov
(including Pell grants, scholarships, and loans).
5. Other than the current funding suspension, there are no planned changes to REF (A).
6. Please refer to your unit-collateral duty ESO for field level questions.
Questions from unit ESOs should be directed to CWO2 Anthony D. Nash (ETQC) at
(757) 413-7449 or email at: ETQC-SMB-TAG@uscg.mil.
