Update: The Coast Guard, state, federal agencies responded to oil spill near Dulac, Louisiana
NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard, state, and federal agencies responded to a crude oil spill into the marsh near Dulac, Louisiana, Monday.
Members from Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Houma, Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team Dulac, Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator’s Office, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, and the Coast Guard Gulf Strike Team conducted an in-situ burn at 10:30 a.m.
The fire burned for approximately three hours leaving no recoverable product. Federal and state representatives conducted a full site assessment and determined that all the crude condensate had burned off.
Texas Petroleum Investment Company will conduct additional post burn assessments as needed.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
Impact to the environment and wildlife is to be determined.
