1. This ACN updates COMDT COGARD WASHINGTON DC 031217 JAN 18/ACN 003/18.
As outlined in REFs (A) through (F), specific Coast Guard entities such as fire houses,
PSUs, cutters with assigned Independent Duty Health Services Technicians, Air Stations,
and diving units are authorized to carry and use AEDs.
    a. Non-aviation CG units using AEDs as outlined in REFs (A) through (F) are authorized
to use any AED approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
    b. CG Air Stations are only authorized to use AEDs which have been tested and approved
by the Aviation Logistics Center as Medical Portable Electronic Devices.
2. All units not included within paragraph one that want to implement AED programs,
including use in operational situations (e.g. boat operations, Search and Rescue (SAR)
missions, etc.), can do so, but only after coordinating with their respective CG clinic
to ensure their AED programs comply as applicable with both the CG HSWL SC Technical
Directive (TD) and REF (G).
3. Units that are not covered by REFs (A) through (F) or do not have an approved AED
program must either establish one as indicated in paragraph two or cease the use and
carriage of AEDs.
4. REF (H) will be updated accordingly and will be released within a year of this ACN.
