Coast Guard conducts joint rescue operations with FEMA, Army in Brunswick County, N.C.

 Search and rescue teams comprised of members of Coast Guard Maritime Safety Security Teams New Orleans and Miami, Coast Guard Tactical Law Enforcement Team-South and the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade transport residents stranded by Hurricane Florence flooding in Brunswick County, North Carolina, Sept. 18, 2018.  In a period of three days, the joint team covered 1,256 square miles, saved 101 lives, assisted 296 people, rescued 57 dogs and 22 cats, and conducted more than 300 welfare checks on citizens of Brunswick County.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. – Coast Guard search and rescue teams worked with FEMA and the U.S. Army to conduct search and rescue missions in Brunswick County, North Carolina, Tuesday.

 

Members of Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Teams New Orleans and Miami, Coast Guard Tactical Law Enforcement Team South, FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Mission Task Force 1, and the Army’s 82ndAirborne Division Sustainment Brigade worked together over a three-day period on search and rescue and humanitarian relief operations.

 

The joint operation saw first responders cover 1,256 square-miles, save 101 lives, assist 296 people, rescue 57 dogs and 22 cats, and conduct more than 300 welfare checks on the citizens of Brunswick County Sept. 16 through 18.

 

“Our Coast Guard deployable specialized forces worked in step with FEMA and the Army for the people of Brunswick County during this devastating time,” said Lt. Hunter Hill, leader of the Coast Guard crew. “The unity of effort on all levels to come together in response to the catastrophic effects was what we train to do, but to actually work with partner agencies is simply inspiring.”
