GOLDSBORO, N.C. - A Coast Guard shallow-water response boat team conducting search and rescue operations rescued people stranded by flooding from Hurricane Florence in Trenton, North Carolina, Tuesday.
Among those rescued was a new father who was in the hospital for the birth of his child during Hurricane Florence. He had left important supplies at home prior to the storm and asked the Coast Guard crew if they could help him retrieve those supplies to bring back to his newborn child.
Coast Guard crews from across the U.S. are located with personnel from state, federal and local agencies for Hurricane Florence. Teams are deployed by local emergency operation centers for search and rescue, humanitarian aid, and infrastructure rebuilding missions.
