UPDATE: Coast Guard, local agencies searching for missing boater in
Lake Erie off Vermilion, Ohio
CLEVELAND — The Coast Guard suspended the search for a missing boater in Lake Erie after a body matching the description was located, Saturday.
There is no Coast Guard imagery and the name of the individual is not being released by the Coast Guard.
The missing boater was located at 12 p.m. by a good Samaritan approximately three miles north of the mouth of the Vermilion River, and was not wearing a life jacket.
The search for the missing boater continued through the night and into the morning by crews from Coast Guard Station Marblehead and Coast Guard Air Station Detroit. The Canadian Coast Guard also provided air support with a C-130 crew at first light. Good Samaritans also provided assistance Saturday.
Other partnering agencies involved in the search Friday included the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and Huron Fire and Police Departments.
The Coast Guard reminds everyone to wear a life jacket at all times when boating, especially if you venture out alone. Also, wear bright colored clothing to help make it easier for rescuers to locate you out on the water, and always check the weather conditions before venturing out onto the lake.
