Coast Guard boat crew medevacs beach goer near Kelly Point Park in Portland, Oregon


PORTLAND, Ore.  -- A Coast Guard boat crew medically evacuated a man reportedly suffering from symptoms of heat stroke on the beach near Kelly Point, in Portland, Sunday evening.

A Coast Guard Station Portland boat crew aboard a 29-foot Response Boat-small II located the individual and transported him to Cathedral Park, where Emergency Medical Service personnel were waiting.

Coast Guard Sector Columbia River Command Center watchstanders received a radio distress call at 2:45 p.m., requesting assistance for a man needing medical attention.

Initially, sector personnel coordinated with an EMS crew in an attempt to locate the individual, with negative results. Additionally, Portland Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and searched the beach on foot and with all-terrain vehicles.

At 3:25 p.m., Coast Guard Station Portland launched their rescue boat and located the beach goer after being flagged down by a Good Samaritan just south of Kelley Point.

The subject was transferred from the beach onto the 29-foot rescue boat via a sailing vessel skiff and transported for further medical assistance.
