MIAMI — The Coast Guard rescued nine people from the water Thursday after their boat capsized near Hen and Chickens Reef.

At approximately 4 p.m., the crew of the 19-foot boat contacted Coast Guard Station Islamorada watchstanders stating they were taking on water and were in need of emergency assistance.

Watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Station Islamorada 33-foot Special Purpose Craft—Law Enforcement boatcrew to assist.

The SPC-LE boatcrew arrived at 4:05 p.m., embarked all nine people and transferred them to Smuggler's Cove Resort and Marina with no reported injuries.

Salvage arrangements were made by the capsized boat's rental company to tow the boat ashore.
