Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary focus on safety and security at Rose Festival

MSSTs are domestic, mobile units that possess specialized training and capabilities to perform a broad spectrum of port safety and security operations.

Seven Coast Guard Auxiliary vessels with 26 auxiliary members teamed with active-duty Coast Guardsmen and multiple state and local agencies to secure and protect the Portland waterfront during the five-day event.

Portland is the biggest city in Sector Columbia River's area of responsibility and has two major rivers that flow through the city's boundaries.

Coast Guard members also participated in Rose Festival events including parade of ships, public tours of cutters and helped ensure security during the event.
