Coast Guard suspends search for man missing in Potomac River
BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard suspended its search for a man in the Potomac River near the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Washington D.C., Monday night at 9 p.m.
The Coast Guard began working with D.C. Fire and EMS, Alexandria Fire Department, U.S. Park Police, D.C. Police Department, and D.C. Harbor Patrol late Monday morning to search a combined total area of approximately 108 square miles in the Potomac River, from Arlington, Virginia to Maryland Point, Maryland.
“We put a lot effort into this search before deciding to suspend it,” said Cmdr. Sara Wallace, chief of response at Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region. “The decision is always a difficult one to make. We would like to send our condolences to the family and everyone affected by this tragedy.”
