Coast Guard medevacs mariner from Tavernier Creek

MIAMI — The Coast Guard medevaced a 50-year-old man from a disabled 20-foot pleasure craft from Tavernier Creek near Key Largo.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Key West received a call from Coast Guard Station Islamorada reporting a disable 20-foot pleasure craft with a 50-year-old man aboard stating he was experiencing chest pains. The watchstanders directed the launch of two Station Islamorada 33-foot Special Purpose Craft—Law Enforcement boatcrews to assist.

The boatcrews arrived on scene and one of the station crews transferred the mariner ashore to awaiting emergency medical services in reportedly stable condition. The other station crew remained on scene with the adrift vessel until commercial salvage arrived to take the vessel in tow.
