UPDATE 2: Coast Guard, Mass DEP respond to dielectric oil leak in Mystic River
BOSTON — A unified command has been established in response to the dielectric oil leak in the Mystic River near the Alford St. bridge. Initial release HERE.
The unified command is made up of the U.S. Coast Guard, Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, and Eversource Energy.
The unified command has contracted Clean Harbors and GZA GeoEnvironmental Inc. to mitigate any pollution, and a dive team to locate and secure the precise point of the leak.
Currently, booming strategies have been effective at ensuring minimal environmental impacts.
The public is urged to be aware of clean-up operations in the area and avoid contact with any oil in the water.
Crews are scheduled to resume shoreline assessments and booming as needed early Monday, and the unified command plans to deploy a remotely operated vehicle and dive team to locate the precise point of the leak and secure it.
