MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Coast Guard to inspect passenger boat in Tampa
TAMPA, Fla.— Coast Guard crewmembers are scheduled to inspect a local passenger vessel Monday and discuss passenger vessel safety in Tampa.
WHO: Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg Prevention inspectors.
WHAT: Media are invited to follow Coast Guard crewmembers for an inspection aboard a local passenger vessel. After the inspection, crewmembers will be available to discuss passenger vessel safety. Inspections determine if a passenger vessel meets all the minimum required safety standards including number of life jackets on board, fire extinguishers and sound producing devices. In addition, inspectors will ensure the boat operator has a valid and current Merchant Mariner Credential. The Coast Guard recommends the public ask to see a passenger vessel operator’s credential before paying for boating services.
WHEN: 9 a.m. Monday, April 16.
WHERE: 603 Channelside Dr., Tampa, Fla., 33602
Editor’s note: There are three spots available, allocated on a first-come basis. Media must RSVP to Petty Officer 2nd Class Ashley J. Johnson at 305-965-4672 by 10 p.m. Sunday, April 15.
