Coast Guard, partner agencies complete oil spill seminar

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard and partner agencies completed an oil spill response seminar in New Orleans, Wednesday.
Partner agencies included but not limited to:
- Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement
- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
- Secretaria de Marina
- Agencia de Seguridad, Energia y Ambiente
- Comisión Nacional de Hidrocarburos
The exercise was conducted to promote a coordinated system of response between Mexico and the United States in the event of a marine pollution event that crosses the Mexico/U.S. border.
During the exercise, Rear Adm. Paul Thomas, commander of the Eighth Coast Guard District, and Vice Adm. Froylan Jimenez Colorado, commander of Secretaria de Marina Zone 1, signed the MEXUSGULF Annex.
The MEXUSGULF Annex is a joint contingency plan between the Secretaria de Marina and U.S. Coast Guard regarding pollution of the marine environment by discharge of hydrocarbons or other hazardous materials.
