SUBJ: 2018 LEAGUE OF UNITED LATIN AMERICAN CITIZENS (LULAC) EXCELLENCE IN PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD
1. This ALCOAST solicits nominations for the 2018 LULAC Excellence in Public Service
Award. The award recognizes excellence by individuals or teams in the advancement
of diversity, education, economics and health in communities with large
underrepresented populations. The LULAC award is open to CG service members
(active duty or reserve) and civilian employees.
2. All nominations will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
   a. Activity Period - A minimum of one year of service is required for
consideration (Apr 2017 to Mar 2018).
   b. Description of the Activity – Briefly describe the situation or context of a
project, program or challenge that was addressed. Use specific examples and indicate
the date started and, if completed, the end date.
   c. Action Taken – Describe the exact actions taken by an individual or a team
that made a significant contribution toward the goal. 
   d. Impact of Activity – Explain the results and impact of actions by an
individual or a team. Describe why what they did mattered, how it made a difference
and/or whom was affected. Include ways in which the work performed is part of a
bigger picture and if or how it impacted a community.
3. Nomination packages are to be completed as a Word document in 12-point type,
Times New Roman, with one-inch left and right margins:
   a. Description of Activity - no more than a quarter of a page or less.
   b. Action Taken - no more than half of a page or less.
   c. Impact of Activity - no more than half of a page or less.
   d. Biographical Summary - no more than half of a page. If a team submission,
provide a summary description of their collective talents and range of service.
   e. Individual photograph - head and shoulder color picture; team photograph -
head, shoulder and torso color picture (JPG format at 300 dpi resolution).
   f. Command cover memo, with signature, forwarding the package.
   g. Award Nominating Transmittal Form. For a copy of this form, please contact
the POC below.
4. Items 3.a thru 3.d may not be scanned or in .pdf format. Do not include PII
in nomination packages.
5. Nomination packages must be forwarded, as email attachments only,
to the point of contact, Mr. Juan Torres, juan.l.torres@uscg.mil,
no later than 20 April 2018. For additional information, call 202-372-4594.
6. All nominations will be forwarded to the LULAC Affinity Group for consideration
and selection of the award winner(s). Commands with award recipients will be
notified by email. An ALCOAST will announce the winner(s).
