SUBJ: PROMULGATION OF AIDS TO NAVIGATION (ATON) BRUSHING OPERATIONS
TACTICS, TECHNIQUES AND PROCEDURES (TTP), CGTTP 3-71.20
A. Aids to Navigation (ATON) Brushing Operations Tactics,
Techniques and Procedures (TTP), CGTTP 3-71.20
1. Effective immediately, REF (A) provides TTP for all personnel engaged
in brush-cutting operations including pesticide management and
application.
2.  The USCG deploys crews to manually clear brush and trees around and
on some ATON. The extreme risk of exposure to poisonous vegetation,
stinging insects, wildlife, and brushing hazards, exacerbated by the
remoteness and distance from emergency medical treatment in most
operating areas, pose an elevated risk of injury and death. As a result,
ATON units sometimes use chemical methods to deter plant growth to
minimize the chance of exposure.
3. Submit recommendations for TTP improvements or corrections through
the TTP Request form by navigating to CGPortal, selecting References and
then TTP Request. The electronic version of REF (A) is the most current
version of the TTP and is maintained by FORCECOM in the CGTTP library.
The CGTTP library can be accessed by navigating to CGPortal, selecting
References and then selecting Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures
Library.
4. Bravo Zulu to members of the Integrated Process Team (IPT) for their
time, professionalism, and diligence. IPT partners who supported this
team effort include COMDT (CG-NAV-3), CGD Eight, CGD Thirteen, CGC
WYACONDA, HSWL Safety, CGC SANGAMON, CGC HENRY BLAKE and TRACEN
Yorktown.
5. FORCECOM (FC-Tptc) POC: D05-SG-M-FORCECOM-PI@uscg.mil or 757-628-
4855.
6. Released by RDML K. M. Smith, Commander, Force Readiness Command.
7. Internet release authorized.
