Coast Guard, Clatsop County rescue team medevac injured worker
aboard anchored ship in Columbia River
ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard assisted and transported an injured man aboard an anchored ship at the Astoria anchorage on the Columbia River, early Monday morning.
A Coast Guard boat crew aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat, from Station Cape Disappointment, transported 11 members of the Clatsop County high-angle rescue team to assist a man that had been injured aboard the motor vessel Ergsna Luck, and transport him to emergency medical services at the 17th Street Pier in Astoria.
The agent of the Ergsna Luck contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Columbia River at 11:48 p.m., Sunday, to report the injury of a contracted workman who had fallen into a bilge while installing a recirculation system. The man reportedly injured both his legs and back and was unable to walk.
The Clatsop County high-angle rescue team confirmed response availability with Sector Columbia River rescue coordinators who coordinated transportation of the high-angle rescue team via the Station Cape Disappointment boat crew. At 3:02 a.m the rescue team boarded the motor vessel and immobilized the injured man once on scene and carried him up three sets of stairs before lowering him down to the crew aboard the 47-foot MLB at 4:45 a.m. The injured man was transferred to EMS at 5:07 a.m.
The injured man is a U.S. citizen and is employed by Degesch America, based in Portland. The condition of the injured man is unknown at this time.
The cause of the incident will be investigated.
