WHO: Vice Commandant Charles Michel, U.S. Ambassador Sharon Day and Costa Rican Ambassador Roman Macaya

WHAT: Michel, Day and Macaya will discuss the transfer of two 110-foot patrol boats from the U.S. Coast Guard to the Costa Rican coast guard and its impact in the fight against drug trafficking, illegal fishing and other illicit activities.

WHERE: Berry Hall, Coast Guard Yard, 2401 Hawkins Point Road., Baltimore, MD 21226

WHEN: 9:45 a.m. - 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018

BALTIMORE — U.S. Coast Guard Vice Commandant Charles Michel, U.S. Ambassador Sharon Day, Costa Rican Ambassador Roman Macaya, Costa Rican Minister of Public Security Gustavo Mata and Costa Rican Coast Guard Director Martin Arias Araya will speak about the transfer of two 110-foot patrol boats to the Costa Rican coast guard through the Office of International Acquisition’s Excess Defense Articles Program Tuesday at 9:45 a.m.

Each official will speak briefly and will be available for interviews afterward.

The Coast Guard provided new equipment to outfit the cutters, and Coast Guard personnel are training the new Costa Rican crews on the platforms through the Foreign Military Sales program.

The cutter transfers help build and sustain international partnerships, foster regional and global maritime safety, and save the Coast Guard money in disposal costs.

The ships, originally Coast Guard Cutter Long Island and Coast Guard Cutter Roanoke Island, are now Libertador Juan Rafael Mora Porras and Libertador General José Maria Cañas Escamilla. The ships are set to sail to Costa Rica in spring of 2018.

For additional information and to RSVP, please call 757-434-7712. There are 10 spots available for media outlets; please RSVP no later than Friday, Feb. 9 at 4 p.m.
