AND DIVERSITY (LEAD) COUNCIL
A. COMMANDANT’S LEADERSHIP, EXCELLENCE AND DIVERSITY COUNCIL AND LEADERSHIP
AND DIVERSITY ADVISORY COUNCILS, COMDTINST 5350.9 (SERIES)
1. On behalf of the Commandant, I am pleased to solicit input from the field
to the LEAD Council. The purpose of the LEAD Council is to enhance leadership
development practices, support a diverse and inclusive workforce, and bring
leadership and diversity issues to the highest levels of the Coast Guard.
Annually, the LEAD Council meets and considers issues using unfiltered input
submitted by field personnel.
2. For the Spring 2018 meeting of the Coast Guard’s LEAD Council, Coast Guard
military members (active and reserve), civilian employees, and Auxiliarists are
highly encouraged to provide the LEAD Council with input on leadership and
diversity related topics for discussion. Topics may be submitted through the
Office of Diversity and Inclusion: https://cg.portal.uscg.mil/communities/leadership-
excellence-diversity-council/SitePages/Home.aspx. Submissions will be considered
on a rolling basis; however, submissions must be received by 7 March 2018 to be
considered for the Spring 2018 meeting which convenes 19 March 2018.
3. Members are encouraged, but not required, to discuss their proposed topics
with their local Command as well as to utilize the Leadership and Diversity
Advisory Council (LDAC) network prior to submission. Submissions should be
limited to one succinct paragraph framing the issue with recommendations,
if appropriate.
4. The intent of this message is to provide an avenue for members to communicate
leadership and diversity concerns to the Commandant through the LEAD Council.
This is not intended to supersede the existing equal opportunity process.
5. Questions about this message or the LEAD Council should be directed to
CDR Chaning Burgess, COMDT (CG-12B), (202) 475-5246 or Chaning.D.Burgess@uscg.mil.
