Coast Guard rescues 2 people, 2 dogs from vessel near Cudjoe Key

MIAMI — The Coast Guard rescued two people and two dogs from a vessel taking on water Monday in the vicinity of Cudjoe Key.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Key West Command Center received a distress call from the 40-foot trawler, Addicted, reporting they were taking on water. The watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Ket West 45-foot Response Boat—Medium boatcrew and a Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to assist.

The helicopter and boat crews arrived on scene at approximately 7p.m. to assist the mariners. Upon arriving on scene the rescue crews found the vessel aground. 

The helicopter crew hoisted the two mariners and two dogs aboard the vessel and took them the Key West International Airport with no reported injuries.
