JUNEAU, Alaska - A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced a man Sunday morning from the 143-foot fishing vessel American No.1, 230 miles north of Cold Bay.

The Jayhawk helicopter crew hoisted the man and safely transported him to Cold Bay where a LifeMed aircraft crew transported him to Anchorage for further medical care.

Coast Guard District 17 command center watchstanders received notification from Health Force Partners reporting a 35-year-old male crewmember was suffering from abdominal pain and vomiting. Watchstanders requested the launch of a Jayhawk and an HC-130 aircraft crew after the duty flight surgeon recommended a medevac.

"Coordinating a medevac more than 200 miles offshore is challenging," said Petty Officer First Class Seth Caron, District 17 command center watchstander. "Our training and excellent communication between the Coast Guard, LifeMed, Health Force Partners and the American No.1 crew enabled us to safely get this man the care he needed."

Weather at the scene of the medevac was 14-mph winds and 8-foot seas.
