JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Port Canaveral held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday for its new building at the Port Canaveral Interagency Maritime Operations Center.

The Port Canaveral maritime community welcomed MSD Port Canaveral into its new building after Hurricane Matthew destroyed the previous building. The building is in a new location that provides an opportunity for the Coast Guard to strengthen its relationships with local port partners that all work together to ensure the safe and secure use of East Central Florida’s waterways.

MSD Port Canaveral is responsible for ensuring safety, security, and protection of the marine environment for Eastern Central Florida. This unit is comprised of 11 active duty and 16 reserve component personnel.
