NEW ORLEANS – A Coast Guard boatcrew from Station New Orleans rescued a dog in Lake Pontchartrain Monday afternoon.

A concerned boater contacted Sector New Orleans and notified the watchstander that he spotted a dog swimming in the lake about 1 mile north of the University of New Orleans but was unable to recover it.

A Coast Guard boatcrew that was preparing to get underway for training launched, rescued the dog and brought him back to the station. From there, he was turned over to the Jefferson Parish East Bank Animal Shelter.
