Coast Guard medevacs fisherman near Noyo River

MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif — A Coast Guard helicopter crew medevaced a 22-year-old fisherman near Noyo River who was reportedly suffering from abdominal pains aboard the 42-foot commercial fishing vessel Princess, Sunday.

 

The Princess' crew contacted Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay watchstanders on VHF-FM channel 16 around 4 p.m., requesting help for a crewmember who was experiencing abdominal pains and unable to walk.

 

Watchstanders dispatched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay and a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Noyo River that was underway nearby self-diverted to respond to the case.

 

The boat crew was on scene within 30 minutes and transferred a Coast Guard member onto the Princess to stay with the patient until the aircrew arrived around 5:30 p.m.

 

Once on scene, the Dolphin crew deployed a rescue swimmer with a basket to hoist the man and transported him to St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka for treatment.
