NEW YORK — The Coast Guard presented the Ports of New York, New Jersey, and Albany with the Area Maritime Security Committee of the Year Award at a meeting today, in Brooklyn, New York.

Area Maritime Security Committees (AMSC) bring federal, state, local, and tribal government and industry partners together to collaborate on maritime security. AMSC personnel conduct meetings, create partnerships and networks, share information, conduct training, assess vulnerabilities, and mitigate risks in support of the Area Maritime Security Plan.

The meeting in Brooklyn was a gathering of maritime companies in the private sector and law enforcement agencies from the surrounding New York and New Jersey area to discuss what steps are being taken to mitigate current maritime threats.

Awards were also presented to the New York Police Department Aviation, Harbor, and Counterterrorism Units as well as the New York Fire Department Harbor Unit and Jersey City Fire Department for heroic maritime actions within the past year.
