CORRECTION: Coast Guard, local agencies save person in water off Narragansett, Rhode Island

CORRECTION: There is a discrepancy regarding the age of the woman rescued; she is 39, not 20.

BOSTON — The Coast Guard and Narragansett Bay Task Force rescued a 20-year-old woman Wednesday after she fell off the rocks and into the water near the Coast Guard House in Narragansett, Rhode Island.

An officer from Narragansett police called watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Castle Hill reporting the woman in the water. The officer said they threw the woman a life jacket, and could hear her, but could not see her due to the fog.

A 45-foot response boat crew from Station Castle Hill launched and arrived on scene with the six other agencies from the Narragansett Bay Task Force.

Around 8 p.m., a rescue swimmer deployed from Narragansett Fire department boat and rescued the woman. The 45-foot response boat crew picked up the rescue swimmer and woman and brought them back to Station Castle Hill to awaiting Emergency Medical Services.

The woman was reported conscience, but suffering from hypothermic symptoms.

There is a heavy surf advisory in affect for Narragansett Bay.
