SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The Coast Guard Cutter Donald Horsley crew delivered food, water, electrical supplies and emergency response personnel to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands Friday.

Emergency responders aboard the cutter included a nine-person team from the International Fund for Animal Welfare the needs of sheltered and unsheltered pets, domestic live stock, and wild animals in the islands. This team also delivered urgently needed supplies including pet food, cat litter, cleaning supplies and kennels to fulfill their mission.

Also aboard were other federal government personnel, and two Transportation Security Administration contractors who will be assessing damage and making repairs to security scanners and other equipment required for air travel at the Cyril King Airport.

“You get a good feeling delivering relief supplies and people from the Coast Guard and other agencies to the island,” said Lt. jg. David Q. Anderson, executive officer of Donald Horsley. “We know there is a need to further transport supplies to the U.S. Virgin Islands and we will bring whatever we can onboard for transit.”

The Donald Horsley is a 154-foot fast response cutter based out of San Juan, Puerto Rico
