KEY WEST, Fla. — The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton continues relief efforts Wednesday in response to the damage caused by Hurricane Irma.

The Hamilton crew arrived off the coast of Key West, Wednesday morning, to assist the ravaged area. The Coast Guard Cutters Northland and Forward were already on scene providing assistance.

The Hamilton crew provided fuel to an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew so they could continue providing relief to the residents of South Florida. The crew also deployed a 35-foot response boat to survey an overturned boat found south of Key West, which showed no sign of distress.

“Our extraordinary crew has proved the invaluable capabilities of the National Security Cutter. We are happy to be here to assist our country in any way possible,” said Capt. Mark Gordon, the commanding officer of the Hamilton.

Hamilton is one of two 418-foot National Security Cutters homeported in Charleston, S.C. Northland and Forward are 270-foot Medium Endurance Cutters homeported in Portsmouth, VA.
