Ships enter the reopened Port of Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard captain of the port, Capt. Tony Hahn reopened the Port of Corpus Christi with restrictions, Aug. 31, 2017, after it was closed as a result of Hurricane Harvey.

Commercial shipping has resumed in the port. The port restrictions can be found in a previous press release here. 

The Coast Guard is essential to a Global Supply Chain system that supports innovation and prosperity by ensuring the secure and reliable movement of goods within our domestic borders and around the world. 

95% of the nation's overseas trade moves through U.S. coastal ports generating nearly $3.2 trillion of economic activity and 13.3 million U.S. jobs. 

"Opening the port is an important step in recovering from Hurricane Harvey," said Capt. Tony Hahn, captain of the port and incident commander of the unified command in Corpus Christi. "Resuming vessel traffic and commercial shipping is essential to the local and national economy and we sincerely thank mariners and industry for being patient while we ensured this was done correctly."
