|
Commencing September 6, 2017 and continuing until approximately November 6, 2017, the Harvey Lock at Mile Marker (MM) 0, Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW), will be closed 24-hours a day to all marine traffic due to dewatering operations, repairs, and maintenance to the lock. Throughout the duration of the closure, the Algiers Lock can be used as an alternate route.
Updates and/or changes to the published schedule will be broadcast via Safety Broadcast Notice to Mariners and by Vessel Traffic Service Lower Mississippi River.
The Lockmaster at Harvey Lock, Greg Desselles, can be reached at 504-366-4683 for up-to-date information (lock wall number is 504-366-5187). The point of contact with the New Orleans District is Victor Landry at 504-862-2407.
Additionally, mariners maintaining vessels in the Harvey Canal (west of the Lapalco Flood Gate, GIWW, MM 2.75 west of the Harvey Lock to the West Closure Complex, GIWW, MM 7.0 west of the Harvey Lock) or in the Algiers Canal, will need to maintain extra vigilance. Those mariners with vessels transiting within the Regulated Navigation Area (RNA) West, not part of an Annual Hurricane Operations Plan (33 CFR 165.838), need to have immediate means of evacuating should the RNA be enforced. This includes vessels without their own propulsion systems, maintaining sufficient means of evacuating their vessel(s) in accordance with the RNA.
