NEW YORK -- The Coast Guard Cutter Eagle, “America’s Tall Ship,” arrived in New York City, Friday and will be moored for three days at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

The Barque Eagle is open for free public tours through Sunday, August 13th. The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is located on at Pier 86, at West 46th St & 12th Ave, New York.

“America’s Tall Ship” will be open for free, public tours during the following times:
Friday, August 11th: 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday, August 12th: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday, August 13th: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you are a member of the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, or a first-responder, you and your family are welcome to tour the Eagle one hour prior to the public tour hours on Saturday and Sunday.

At 295 feet in length, Eagle is the largest tallship flying the stars and stripes and the only active square-rigger in United States government service. Constructed in 1936 by the Blohm and Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, and originally commissioned as the Horst Wessell by the German Navy, Eagle was a war reparation for the United States following World War II.

The Eagle is a three-masted barque with more than 22,300 square feet of sail and 6 miles of rigging, Eagle has served as a classroom at sea to future Coast Guard officers since 1946, offering an at-sea leadership and professional development experience as part of the Coast Guard Academy curriculum.

The last time Barque Eagle visited New York City was last year on August 4th, the Coast Guard's 226th birthday.
