New Lieutenant to take charge of Coast Guard operations in South Padre Island
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Coast Guard lieutenant from Virginia is scheduled to take charge of Coast Guard Station South Padre Island during a change-of-command ceremony Wednesday morning.
WHO: Lt. Kurtis Mees is scheduled to relieve Lt. Cmdr. Michael Bell and take command of Station South Padre Island.
WHAT: A change of command is a ceremony in which all responsibilities of the commanding officer of Coast Guard Station South Padre Island will be transferred.

Lt. Cmdr. Michael Bell assumed his duties as the commanding officer of Station South Padre Island in June 2014. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in June 1997 and graduated Officer Candidate School in May 2005. Lt. Cmdr. Bell holds a bachelor’s degree in business
