PHILADELPHIA — Members of the media are invited to attend the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay change of command ceremony, Friday.

Capt. Scott Anderson will formally relieve Capt. Benjamin Cooper as sector commander and captain of the port, which spans the ports, waterways and shores of Philadelphia, southern New Jersey and Delaware.

Rear Adm. Meredith Austin, commander, Coast Guard 5th District, will preside over the change of command ceremony.

The change of command ceremony is a longstanding military tradition where duty and authority is ceremoniously passed from one member to the next to create a seamless transition of leadership. As sector commander, Anderson will lead Coast Guard members as they conduct the Coast Guard’s 11 statutory missions, such as law enforcement, marine safety, search and rescue and marine environmental protection throughout the region.

Media interested in attending should contact Public Affairs Detachment Atlantic City at 757-434-6043 prior to 5 p.m., Thursday.
