Coast Guard searching for three people near Memphis

 

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is searching for three people on the Lower Mississippi River near Memphis, Tenn., Wednesday.

Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi River watchstanders received a MAYDAY broadcast at 7:04 p.m. Tuesday stating three people aboard a jon boat hit a submerged object and began taking on water near mile marker 744 on the Lower Mississippi River.

Involved in the search are:

  • Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew
  • Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi River 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew
  • Tipton County Sheriff’s Office marine unit
  • Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office marine unit
  • Blytheville Emergency marine unit
  • Shelby County Sheriff’s Office patrol unit
  • Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office marine unit
