MIAMI — The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Richard Etheridge is scheduled to hold a change of command ceremony Monday in Miami.

Coast Guard Lt. Jeremy J. Somplasky will relieve Lt. Cmdr. Jorell R. Webb as commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Richard Etheridge.

Somplasky graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in 2010 with a degree in political science. Somplasky comes to the cutter Richard Etheridge from Coast Guard First District serving as a patrol boat manager.

Webb has served as the commanding officer of the cutter Richard Etheridge since June of 2015. Webb graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in 2005 with a degree in management. Webb is reporting to Coast Guard Pacific Area to serve as an aide to the deputy area commander.

The change of command ceremony is a time-honored military tradition. It is a formal ritual conducted before the assembled company of the command. It conveys to officers and enlisted personnel of the cutter that although the authority of command is relinquished by one person and assumed by another, it is still maintained without interruption.

The Coast Guard Cutter Richard Etheridge is a 154-foot fast response cutter home-ported in Miami.
