Coast Guard announces Berkley Bridge scheduled opening Thursday
WHAT: Berkley Bridge Opening
WHERE: Berkley Bridge, Norfolk
WHY: Floating drydock headed to Colonna's Shipyard in Norfolk
WHEN: scheduled Thursday, 2 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
PORTSMOUTH, Va. — There will be a scheduled opening of the Berkley Bridge Thursday from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., to allow transit of a floating drydock to Colonna's Shipyard in Norfolk.
The public is encouraged to use an alternate route during the opening to avoid delays.
The bridge will be open to facilitate the safe transit of the Colonna's-owned, 600-foot long, 140-foot wide drydock, scheduled to be moved by Dann Marine.
"This new drydock will be a valuable new tool for the port," said Capt. Rick Wester, Captain of the Port. "But it is very large and our first priority is to make certain the proper precautions are implemented to ensure the safety of the port."
