PHILADELPHIA — Media are invited to attend a U.S. Coast Guard safe boating event in preparation for the summer boating season, at Coast Guard Station Atlantic City, Friday.
Media will see the Coast Guard demonstrate proper lifejacket fitting techniques, explain how to keep children safe while on the water, show the function of search and rescue equipment and discuss things boaters can do to reduce the time it takes for rescuers to find them in the event a boating trip turns disastrous.
The event will conclude with a ride on a Coast Guard rescue boat and a demonstration of how rescuers remove a person from the water.
The event is part of National Safe Boating Week, a national event held by many organizations to highlight safe boating practices and encourage boaters to get boating safety checks with the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
