KODIAK, Alaska — Capt. Kevin Riddle will relieve Capt. Samuel Jordan as commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Douglas Munro, Friday, and Capt. Jordan will retire from active duty after 25 years of Coast Guard Service.

Vice Adm. Fred Midgette, commander, Coast Guard Pacific Area, and commander, Defense Forces West, will preside over the ceremony.

During Capt. Jordan’s tenure as commanding officer of Douglas Munro, since May 15, 2015, he and the crew:

  • Spent more than 200 days on patrol, traveling 27,134 miles.
  • Conducted 43 law enforcement boardings to enhance the safety of Alaska’s $13 billion fishing industry.
  • Utilized embarked helicopters to conduct over 180 flight hours while in the Bering Sea.
  • Completed a 31-day operational assessment in San Diego, Calif., receiving a 95.8% overall performance score, excelling in damage control, gunnery and navigation.
  • Traveled beyond Adak, Alaska to the west, below the U.S./Mexican border to the south, and above the Arctic Circle to the north, in support of all major Coast Guard missions; including search and rescue, protection of natural resources, national defense operations and maritime law enforcement.

Since the Douglas Munro’s commissioning on Sept. 27, 1971, the cutter deployed across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and was homeported in four different locations, eventually calling Kodiak home in 2007.
