Coast Guard responds to capsized vessel near Marina Del Ray

SAN PEDRO, Calif – Coast Guard Station Los Angeles-Long Beach, along with Forward Operating Base Point Mugu, Baywatch Del Ray, and Seatow responded to a vessel in distress near Marina Del Ray, May 6, 2017.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received notification at 4:40 p.m. of a 27-foot pleasure craft capsized with three people aboard the vessel eight miles west of Marina Del Ray.

Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach immediately launched a MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter crew from FOB Point Mugu, and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew from Coast Guard Los Angeles-Long Beach.

The Coast Guard Urges mariner to always

  • Wear life jackets while on the water.
  • Have a working marine-band radio on board.
  • Carry marine flares on board the vessel.
  • Ensure bilge pumps are operational and vessel are secure for heavy winds and rain.
  • Stay Informed – The public should remain aware of forecasted weather conditions and monitor progress through local television, radio, and internet. Check the current and expected weather and water conditions before heading out, and be aware that weather conditions can quickly change.
