CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Coast Guard helicopter crews responded to a capsized boat with four adults and two children aboard and coordinated their rescue at the mouth of Baffin Bay Monday.
At 1:15 p.m., Sea Tow dispatchers called Sector Corpus Christi watchstanders to report a disabled 23-foot Mako that sank in three feet of water. The boat had four adults and two children aboard, east of the intracoastal waterway, at the mouth of Baffin Bay.
At 2:40 p.m., an Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter arrived on scene. The aircrew lowered their rescue swimmer and coordinated assistance from two good Samaritan boats nearby. The rescue swimmer helped get everyone into the boats to get to safety. They transported the survivors to a nearby fishing cabin. Padre Island National Seashore Rangers were able to transport all of the survivors to the Bird Island Basin.
There were no injuries or pollution to report and the owner is working on plans to salvage the vessel.
