PHILADELPHIA -- Members of Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City recently took part in a familiarization patrol over Washington D.C., Thursday.

While today marks the first official day of Spring, the cherry blossoms that give pastel hues to the city were unfortunately destroyed by recent cold weather.

Air Station Atlantic City staffs the National Capital Region Air Defense Facility (NCRADF) by providing helicopters and crewmembers, who perform a vital air security mission to Washington D.C., operating under the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
