Coast Guard rescues kite surfer from water in Matapeke, Md.
BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard rescued a kite surfer from the water Sunday off Matapeke.
Watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region received a report from a good Samaritan stating a kite surfer had let go of his kite and was attempting to swim to shore Sunday afternoon.
Sector Maryland-NCR issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boat crew from Coast Guard Station Annapolis to respond. Personnel from Maryland Natural Resources Police, Queen Anne’s County fire, and Maryland State Police also launched to respond.
The Coast Guard crew located the kite surfer, rescued him from the water and retrieved his gear.
The kite surfer was transferred to the MNRP pier on Kent Island for evaluation by EMS.
No injures were reported.
