Subject: Reminder: English Language Documentation Requirements for Import Entries

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is committed to facilitating the efficient flow of trade. To ensure timely processing, we remind the trade community that all documentation submitted for entry must be in the English language.
CBP officers must verify the nature, value, and admissibility of goods to fulfill statutory responsibilities. Documentation submitted in a foreign language hinders this process.
General Imports: Pursuant to 19 CFR 141.86(b) and 19 U.S.C. 1484, all commercial invoices and supporting entry documentation must be in English or accompanied by an accurate English translation.
Regulated Commodities: For imports subject to USDA oversight, 9 CFR Parts 93, 94, 95, and 96 explicitly require that official certificates, permits, and declarations be provided in English.
To avoid processing delays or Requests for Information (RFIs), please ensure all foreign-language documents include an accurate English translation upon submission. Providing clear, English-language documentation allows CBP to verify compliance efficiently and supports the timely release of your goods.
